Tipping in Mongolia is not as common or expected as it is in some other countries. Here are a few general guidelines:
- Restaurants and Cafes: Tipping is not expected, but if you receive exceptional service, leaving a small amount (around 5-10% of the bill) is appreciated.
- Hotels: Bellboys and housekeeping staff do not generally expect tips, but you can give them a small amount if you feel they have provided excellent service.
- Tour Guides and Drivers: It's more customary to tip tour guides and drivers if they have provided a good service. A reasonable tip would be around $5-10 per day for guides and $3-5 per day for drivers.
- Taxis:Tipping taxi drivers is not customary, but rounding up the fare to the nearest 100 or 500 MNT is a nice gesture.
Overall, tipping in Mongolia is more about showing appreciation for good service rather than an obligation.
